Mark Andreoni “Newt”
A native of landlocked Illinois, Mark got his start sailing on lakes in small boats before upgrading to the ocean. With the ocean calling his name, Mark moved out west to attend university. After moving out to the west coast for college, he eventually found his way to Catalina Island as a fresh new sail instructor for the summer of 2016. Mark loved the feeling of working with students who were experiencing their first time on the water–what a rush! Before long, his love for the ocean kept him coming back, summer after summer, and Mark now also works for Guided Discoveries year round on the island as a Marine Science Instructor during the school year. He loves bringing this love of being on the ocean to students while teaching them how to maintain safety on the seas. He believes that understanding safety is critical to ensuring that students can have a good time. After four summers at Toyon Bay Yacht Club, he’s excited to bring his sailing expertise and wacky teaching style to the position of Sail Director at CIMI Toyon Bay. His campers fondly remember his incredible enthusiasm and clear joy for his work.
