Sailing, Catalina Sea Camp and The Toyon Bay Yacht Club
Catalina Island provides some of the most spectacular sailing in California. At Catalina Sea Camp, the Toyon Bay Yacht Club (TBYC) offers a range of courses for all sailors, from beginner to advanced.
New campers can learn and advance their skills on Laser I and Vanguard 420 sailboats, while more experienced sailors can take the helm on Hobie Getaways and Nacra Catamarans. A Capri 22’ hosts our Coastal Cruising classes. Want to learn to windsurf? We offer Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Board Sailing classes too! Throughout all of our sailing courses, campers will set-up, launch, skipper and crew their own boats. At the TBYC you really learn by doing. If you really want to see what it takes to maintain all of the great boats in the TBYC programs be sure to sign up for “Peanuts Fleet”.
The Toyon Bay Yacht Club is its own community within the camp. Sailors all participate in a fun initiation where they take an oath and choose “Sea Names” as they become lifelong members. The TBYC provides a number of social events during the course of the session, including the famous “Dawn Drumming” to summon the wind on race day!
