At Catalina Sea Camp, our single and multi-week summer camps are designed to spark campers’ interest in marine biology and encourage independent skills on different levels. Our facilities are located on the leeward side of Catalina Island, which allows us to provide a wide range of science labs as well as ocean and island activities. Selecting the right camp length is key to having the best experience possible.
1-Week Sessions
Our 1-week summer camp is specially designed for children ages 8 to 13. This program is ideal for first-timers and younger campers, as our instructors keep them active and engaged with pre-selected core activities and present the opportunity to pick elective activities in the afternoon.
Campers will be able to build independence and experiment in marine-focused labs for the first time while building life-long friendships. Our activities available for this program are a perfect combination of exploration, adventure and connection. They include:
- Marine biology: Your child will be immersed in science with the sharks and rays touch tank and laboratories, including oceanography, plankton, fish and invertebrates.
- Ocean adventure: Campers will enjoy active fun with stand-up paddle boards, kayaking, sailing and tubing.
- Snorkeling: Kids will learn to snorkel on various modalities, including shore, boat and night snorkeling.
2.5-Week Sessions
Our 2.5-week sessions are available for campers ages 12 to 17 who are seeking advanced skills and leadership opportunities. This summer camp for teens provides a university-style experience where campers can build their schedule with advanced activities and certifications. For this session, campers provide their preferences in advance and will follow their personalized schedules during their stay.
Specialized activities in our 2.5-week program include:
- NAUI Scuba certifications.
- Underwater videography and photography.
- Sailing and flat-top boat coastal exploring.
- Oceanography and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs).
Factors to Consider
There are some key factors to consider before selecting one of our programs, including:
- Age: Our camping experiences are designed to build up our campers’ skills with age-appropriate adventures. Consider the programs that are suitable for your child’s age group.
- Prior camp experience: Campers who have visited us on previous occasions and have built their skills often come back to improve and challenge themselves with new experiences.
- Personality: Spending time away from home can be challenging for new campers and younger children. Consider your child’s personality and self-care skills to choose the right adventure for them.
- Family schedule: On the practical side of planning, it’s important that the program duration is manageable for your family schedule.
